In a recent update that will take effect on October 18, streaming giant Twitch has decided to ban all streams from unregulated casino websites.
Sharing referral codes or URLs to advertise dice, roulette, or slot games has already been prohibited since August 2021. Twitch, on the other hand, said that it has "seen some people circumvent these rules and expose our community to potential harm."
As a result, the streaming network has decided to stop allowing feeds to websites that host these games if they fall short of certain regulatory requirements.
In order to ensure that "everyone is clear on our new rules before they take effect on October 18th," the platform promised to shortly release all of the policy's specifics.
However, Twitch has only stated that it will "prohibit streaming of gambling sites that include slots, roulette, or dice games that are not licensed either in the US or other jurisdictions that provide sufficient customer protection."
Twitch singled out four cryptocurrency casinos as being impacted: Stake.com, Rollbit, Duelbits, and Roobet, implying the crypto gambling industry as a whole would probably be the major focus of the ban. Streamers are awaiting additional clarification on precisely which sites will be blocked. Since all four operators hold Curaçao licenses, the requirements are expected to affect Curaçao licensees generally, but it is unclear how the laws would apply to sites with licenses from other point-of-supply markets.
Additionally, Twitch stated that it will "continue to allow websites that focus on sports betting, fantasy sports and poker."
However, given that it focuses on websites rather than the actual games, it is possible that Twitch may continue to forbid the streaming of these games if they are being played on a site that Twitch considers to be primarily focused on casinos.
